Fifteen things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving:
1. Obviously.
2. My parents get two spots. They’ve been helping me out a lot lately, with my car, my future travels, just support in general. The last six months could have been much worse and the next six months might not even be happening if they weren’t doing the things they are doing for me.
3. My health. Its still a work in progress, and I come across setbacks once in a while, but I’m generally a very healthy person and consider myself to be pretty well educated on how to stay that way.
4. Jay Brennan’s cover of All I want by Joni Mitchell

5. California. Pacific ocean + palm trees + sunshine + mountains = amazing.
6. My apartment. I love it. It is cheap, a block from the beach, with a porch, laundry, parking, ok neighbors, nice landlords, in my favorite place in the world and I am going to be really sad to move out.
7. Locals/Familiar faces. I love walking around and recognizing people, or going to the local watering hole and running into people you’ve seen around, or waves and smiles from people who know you live in OB too. Its the greatest sense of community I’ve ever felt and it just makes me feel safe. Pretty important when you live alone and 3,000 miles away from your family.
8. My Klean Kanteen. I’ve had it for a really long time and it was an amazing “investment”. Meaning, I think it was 30 something bucks and I can’t even guess how much its saved me on bottled water. Not to mention saving the environment from some plastic.
9. My job. Yeah yeah I know I bitch about it but there are plenty of people out there without jobs, who can’t get jobs, and are in really bad situations. I’m thankful that I have one that pays me enough money to have the above apartment and eat enough food. It is also a pretty cool job when I’m not bored out of my mind. I’m helping people and get to order condoms by the thousands.
10. The internet. For too many reasons to list.
11. Occupy Wall Street. As much as I would like to, I haven’t really gotten involved but I love that this movement is happening. I might not agree with everything that is going on but I certainly understand why it is happening and it is pretty cool to be watching history as its written. I think that it might get worse before it gets better but people are waking up and ultimately good things will come of it all.
12. The homeless guy that I gave a dollar a few months ago who still smiles and says hi to me whenever I see him, but hasn’t asked for another $1 since.
13. Emails from my grandparents. Seriously, so cute. And amazing since my grandparents are in their late 70s and early 80s.
14. Smartphones. I don’t have one (I own a Sanyo flip-phone. Laugh all you want.) I don’t really want a smartphone but they allow other people to send me pictures and videos that I love and make me feel like I don’t live thousands of miles away.
15. My new car. My old car was getting…well, old. And…oops. Financials aside, I really like my new car. It makes me feel like a grown up, makes me feel cool, safe, and like I could get to anywhere I might need to go(e.g. work, grocery store, vegas, cross country). Sweet!
What are you thankful for??
